  A Message from the founder

Dear Friends,

The Seminary has an Extensive Extension Department of Video and Audio courses complete with workbooks for those who prefer to study off campus.

The Seminary provides programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Seminary stands, without apology, for that system of doctrine which teaches the absolute sovereignty of God, His electing grace, and the pre-millennial return of our Lord. In the department of ecclesiology this Seminary stands firmly on the old landmarks of the perpetuity of Evangelistic movement as started by Christ during His ministry on earth. We believe the Bible is the infallible and inerrant WORD of GOD. The King James Version is required by teachers and students.

To All the Extension Division Directors

Dear Pastor:
The Breakthrough UNIVERSITY Extension Division brings the Seminary classroom to the local Church. This provides the means for the local Church to train those God calls into full time service without sending them away to Bible Seminary. These studies also enable the teachers and members of the local Church to participate in the joys and excitement of Bible Study.

Since Breakthrough UNIVERSITY Extension courses carry the same accreditation as Campus or External Division programs each Bible Institute is required to meet the standards set for the Headquarter. Your Bible Institute students are treated the same as Campus and External Studies students. This means that the Headquarter maintains a transcript of the courses your students complete. These credits are transferable to most Bible Seminaries across America., UK and India Upon completion of their program your Bible Institute Students are eligible to participate in the annual commencement exercises held at the Breakthrough UNIVERSITY.

Pastor, please remember that you do not have to find professors for every course that you want to teach in your Bible Institute. The quality Video and Audio courses produced by Breakthrough Bible Mission Projects are available to every Bible Institute or individual student through the External Studies Division.

Remember our vision; Freely equipping the equippers to equip the Saints for the advancement of the Kingdom Worldwide. We have campuses in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, & Congo.

Chapter 1 - Setting up your Bible Institute

  Introduction:

For some time now you have seen the need and prayerfully prayed about starting a Bible Institute in your church. Today you are taking the first steps to making a Bible Institute a reality. This manual was prepared in an attempt to help you find answers to as many of your questions as possible. But, please feel at liberty to call our offices, we will be glad to help you in any way possible.

  I. Bible Institute Fees and Cost:
  A. Setup Fee - $150.00

There is a one time $150.00 setup fee*. The fee covers our cost to process all the necessary paperwork and printing of the books (courses) to set your Bible Institute and each of your students up in our computer system. Included in this one time fee is a copy of the Bible Institute Administrative Manual which contains all the needed forms and essential guidelines that you will need to run your Bible Institute. It also includes updates to the manual that will be sent to each Bible Institute as needed.

* Normally this fee is paid at the time a Bible Institute is setup. However, if paying this fee makes it impossible for a church to start a school it may be paid in monthly installments.

  B. College Representatives are available to help you!

Our B.B.C staff is available to help you. We will do everything possible to help you resolve questions you might have, especially in the planning and setup stages of your Bible Institute. If you would like a college Representative to come to your church and help you get your Bible Institute started, we would happy to do so! There is no set fee, we ask that you help the Representative defray his travel expense with an honorarium.

  II. The Planning Stage:
  A. What Course or courses should we offer first.

1. Each Bible Institute is at liberty to teach the courses that the pastor feels his students need. However, if you are not impressed that a certain course is needed, we SUGGEST that you use the Core Curriculum and the 4 year rotating schedule listed on the following page.

  B. A Student library:

Many of your students may not have Concordances, Commentaries, Bible Dictionaries, and other resource books. A student library is a great asset, a valuable tool and real blessing to your students.

  C. Naming Your Bible Institute:

B.B.C. authorizes each Bible Institutes to use the name BREAKTHROUGH Bible Institute an extension of BREAKTHROUGH. However, Bible Institutes may use any name that they desire. The only exception by directive of the Founder; the Board of Advisors and the Faculty ; is that you cannot call yourself a “College”.  Chapter 2

Once you have established what courses will be offered and assigned a Professor you are ready to start enlist students. Some pastors will desire to open classes to those who are members of their church. Others may desire to open the courses to anyone desiring to learn more about God’s Word. BREAKTHROUGH UNIVERSITY welcomes any student you enroll in your Bible Institute.

III. Operating Procedures for Bible Institutes:

This will lay out a foundational program in the area of your interest and will require two or three resources for your meditation. You will complete this and add further research, study and meditation choosing one of the suggestions below. A three-credit course would still be worth three credits. There are several possible avenues you may pursue, including but not limited to the following:

  1. You may read other books on the topic and write a report on them. This report should include:
    1. A summary of the truths, principles and concepts taught in the book;
    2. A record of what the Lord has said to you specifically through the book; and
    3. Any ways in which your life has been changed as a result of your meditation on this book.
  2. You may do a biblical research project on a topic related to any of the course objectives.
  3. You may do a research project based on other than biblical sources on a topic related to any of the course objectives.
  4. You may prepare an original sermon, Bible study, study guide, or other instructional format to present what you have learned. (Note: You will receive a better grade on this if it is lamad in style!)
  5. You may teach the 12-week course to a group after you have completed it. If you choose this option, you will receive one extra credit free of charge. Teaching a 5-8 hour weekend seminar on the topic will also fulfill the graduate-level requirement, but you will not receive an extra credit.

Limits: A maximum of 20 credits may be awarded for the total of both transfer credits from other institutions and from credits earned for life experience. Of these 20, no more than 10 may come from credits earned for life experience.

Classes with computer lessons will need to pay $30.00 fee for computer training

  Student Billing Procedures:

1. At least one-fourth of the Student’s total course cost should be paid upon entrance and the remainder can be paid over a period of three (3) months.

2. All student billing will be done from B.B.C Headquarters and each month send each student a statement reflecting their current balance and amount due.

Note of explanation to Pastor: Bookkeeping can be very simple or made to be very hard. Experience reveals that the less times monies are handled the less chance for errors or erroneous posting. We believe that having payments mailed directly to the Head office eliminates needless headaches. It has also been our experience that students tend not to pay the church where they pay more promptly when the same bill is owed to the Seminary. This also relieves the pastor the responsibility of collecting from the students. Tuition fees are not refundable within the semester.

  Representative Remuneration:

1. When the Head office receives the payment from a Bible Institute we will post student payments to the computer and return 25% of the months proceeds in one of the following ways:

a. The amount will be credited to pastor’s account if he is taking courses.

b. If the Pastor is not enrolled in courses a check for the 25% of the monthly receipts from his Bible Institute will be mailed directly to him. This money is his for administrating the Bible Institute. This money is his to use as he desires.

  The Planning Stage:
  2. A Student library: Many of your students may not have Concordances, Commentaries, Bible Dictionaries, and other resource books. A student library is a great asset, a valuable tool and real blessing to your students.
  3. Naming Your Bible Institute: B.B.C. authorizes each Bible Institutes to use the name BREAKTHROUGH Bible Institute an extension of BREAKTHROUGH. However, Bible Institutes may use any name that they desire. The only exception by directive of the Founder; the Board of Advisors and the Faculty ; is that you cannot call yourself a “College”.

  Operating Procedures for Bible Institutes:
  1. Student Enrollment:
    1. Each student must complete an Enrollment Form. * Which must include a photograph.
    2. A Bible Institute Counselor should interview each student and complete an Evaluation Sheet.*
      1. The Evaluation Sheet supplies Step-out In Faith staff the information needed to give credit for courses taken at other institutions, to award credit for life experience, and to accurately complete each student’s transcript.
    3. Each student desiring B.B.C to consider credit hours from other institutions should complete and mail a Request for Transcript Form to each institution attended requesting them to issue a transcript to B B C

*All Forms that you will need are in the Forms Section of this Manual. They may be copied as needed.

  2. Student Tuition and Fees:
    1. A $30 registration fee will be charged for each student. This is a one-time non refundable fee for student registration.
    2. 1.00 per CREDIT HOUR fee will be charged for each course.
    3. Graduation Fee: $15.00
  3. Credit Hours : By the term 3 credit hours, we mean (7) video sessions that have been watched three times for a total of twenty one (21) video sessions and certification by the students Pastor or Superintendent that the student :
    1. Knows the material.
    2. Read a book on the subject and write a book report.
    3. made a photo copy of their notebook consisting of personal notes in the students handwriting taken while viewing the video. This may be in any format.
    4. Made five teaching outlines, (any format).

A course taken by a student may have more than 3 credit hours or less than a credit. Grades will be as follows:

    • 1st unit is complete - when the student has watched the videos and know the material Passing: D - Grade point 1
    • 2nd unit is complete - when a copy of the students Notebook, notes taken while watching the video has been sent to the seminary. Grade C - Grade point 2
    • 3rd unit is complete - when a copy of ten (10) pages) teaching outlines are sent to the seminary. Grade B - Grade points 3
    • 4th unit is complete - when the student has read a book and sent a copy of the book report to the seminary. Grade A - Grade points 4
  4. EQUIVALENTS: In a regular seminary course one credit hour is equal to eighteen 50-minute sessions, two of these sessions are for test, four are for review or pop quiz, questions, and since in a normal 50-minute hour, the first ten minutes are used in taking the roll and amenities, the next ten minutes are used for review and question. At least ten minutes is for future assignments and dismissal and only about ten to twelve minutes is for new material. We believe that each 30-minute session of concentrated video lectures, (no over-lapping material) is more than equivalent to 3 seminary classroom hours. Since each tape will be viewed 3 times, there is no need for review. The roll will be taken while the tape is stopped and test will be given on separate days. We believe that this is more than an even trade off.

For a list of Video Courses available see the Extension Course Descriptions Section of the catalogue.

  5. Grading: In order to equality for honor students each Bible Institute L.B.T.S. request that each Bible Institutes use the following Grading System:
    1. Grade Point Average (GPA): The student grade point average is the ratio of the hours attempted to the grade points received. The GPA is computed by dividing the total grade points by the number of hours attempted.

Grade points are assigned as follows:

      • A -- 100 - 90 ........................ 4 grade points per semester hour
      • B -- 89 - 80 ........................ 3 grade points per semester hour
      • C -- 79 - 70 ........................ 2 grade points per semester hour
      • D -- 69 - 65 ........................ 1 grade point per semester hour
      • F -- 64 or less ..................... 0 grade points per semester hour
